Investing In Our Employees

As a business we continually invest in the future of both our people and our plant. Harry Sutheran is the latest in a line of apprentices and management trainees to complete his course. Joining the Centaur team in January 2019, Harry came to us with a BTEC in Engineering and a willingness to learn. It was clear that an engineering apprenticeship was right for Harry and the company.

Harry’s time at Centaur began in the moulding department with a small amount of maintenance. His ability and very high level of workmanship saw him often assisting in our special fabrication department. He grew in confidence with the machinery including sawing, welding and shaping our bespoke PVCu cable management products.

In September 2019 Harry started at the Heart of Worcestershire College studying, Engineering Manufacture (Maintenance) Level 3 Advanced, at one of the Worcester based campuses. The structure of the course was 2 years, one day per week in college and regular on-site assessments and progress meetings. These on-site assessments were held at our Midlands based manufacturing facility and would give the tutors a chance to see all of Harry’s work first hand.

Upon completing his course, 6 months early in March 2021, Harry had reached his goals and excelled at the college. Some much so that his body of work was used as an example by his tutor to prove that learning can be undertaken in this format and highlighted what could be achieved.

Harry is now becoming an accomplished member of our team, proving competent in many areas of the factory and sharing his learning from his apprenticeship with his colleagues. Now running the night shift on our moulding department as Shift Supervisor Harry is in control of the efficient running of all the moulding machines, tool changes, plant and equipment maintenance and quality control throughout his shift.
